Saturday’s racing numbers were less than previous weeks but the competition was still fast and furious. As riders have improved during the season their handicaps are adjusted. Ross Lewis worked very hard to stay with his new group consisting of Neil, Guy, and Kyle. Tyson Kemps once again showed his strength in his group but was not strong enough this week to bet his brother Aaron. Toby Boylan and John Hampson worked well together – as always they are strong competitors. Guy McNicol rode very strongly hanging on to Aaron’s wheel – just being beaten across the line. Result for Saturday’s Crit - Aaron Kemps first, Guy McNicol second, John Hampson third, and Neil Sauer finished fourth. All riders are required to hold a current racing licence. Nomination fee of $5 is payable to the racing Secretary – Peter Scanlan. Crit racing next Saturday 20 February, Charley Trigg Drive, Bundaberg.
16 Jan 2010
Fourteen riders lined up for Saturday afternoon’s Coral Isles Criterium Racing at Charlie Trigg Drive. The scratch riders – John Hampson, Arthur Puie and Paul Mitchell worked well together almost catching the second bunch of Kyle Ferguson, Sean Cox, Damian Parton and Allan Sutton. It was all down to the final lap where Sean Cox finished a strong first, Kyle Ferguson second and a close third to Damian Parton. Ross Lewis rode very strongly – his group consisted of Tyson Kemps, Peter Scanlan and Rob Bainbridge. Numbers were down slightly this week due to the track carnival at Rockhampton and our international riders Alan and Scott preparing for the Tour Down Under. Aaron Kemps is preparing for a crit race in India.
2 Jan 2010
Sixteen riders lined up for the first crit race for 2010. There was a hot Northerly wind blowing down the finishing straight. John Hampson, as always looked very competitive especially today on his new racing bike. The front markers of Rob, Kristina, Karen, Bob and Derek on 21 laps worked well together for the first half of the race – Karen dropping off finding the pace too fast followed by Derek. Neil Sauer who was on 23 laps looked very convincing to win powering along in front until the last lap. The Davis brothers proved their elite standing as international riders chased Neil down in the final lap – Alan charging down on the outside of Neil twenty metres from the finish line to take first place. Neil still hung on for second place with Paul Mitchell 3rd and the relentless John Hampson finishing 4th. Arthur Puie hung in as well finishing 5th. It was certainly a dramatic finish and a great way to start the New Year.
Don’t forget – renew your licences for our next crit race to be held on 16 January 2010. Please note there will be no Crit racing 9/10/2010. The Bundaberg Cycling Club will be holding their track Carnival at the Velodrome on this date.
12 Dec 2009
Twenty two riders lined up for Saturday afternoon racing. It was a very hot afternoon but at least the wind was not as strong as usual racing days. International riders Alan Davis and Aaron Kemps started off together on 25 laps pacing each other till the last 5 laps where Aaron dropped off and Alan eventually lapped all the other riders. The nine limit riders on 21 1/2 laps worked well together picking up the pace and latching onto the 22 lap riders. All these riders finished the race together. A brilliant ride by Alan Davis who finished first. Coming in second was Sheldon Dvanter and Derek Taylor riding very strongly finished third followed closely by Peter Scanlan. Welcome to Patrick Babin who raced for the first time at our Crit.
Crit racing will be held Saturday 20 December. There will be no racing on Saturday 26 December. Racing resumes on Saturday 27 December.
